Following her lifelong dream to help people work through the complicated and overwhelming process that is the American Court system, Rachel A. King began her career clerking for a prominent Birmingham litigation firm.
After working with this firm, Rachel realized her true calling was to help her clients feel at home, even when their home may be falling apart. With a desire to help clients during difficult times, she began to exclusively counsel clients in the midst of family crisis.
Since 2005, Rachel has developed extensive expertise in all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, DHR investigations, adoptions, paternity, child support, alimony, IEP’s and guardianships.
After becoming a partner in 2009 at a Shelby County law firm, Rachel continued to help the residents of Alabama with all their family law needs, and in 2012, Rachel founded the boutique firm of Vella & King with her partner, Traci Owen Vella. Together, they offer more than 40 years of experience and expertise in the areas of family law, domestic relations and adoptions.
Since 2010, Rachel has continued to receive recognition as a top Birmingham family law attorney and has been featured in the Birmingham magazine, BMetro magazine and Bham Biz magazine for these awards. Rachel is an AV-rated attorney through Martindale-Hubbell (the highest rating given by other lawyers based on experience and credentials). She has also received the Client’s Choice award in Family Law from AWO in 2013 (an award given based upon client recommendations and reviews). In 2019 and 2020 Rachel was named a Super Lawyer in the Mid-South Region as a Rising Star in the area of Family Law. Additionally, Rachel was appointed by the Alabama Supreme Court as a current member of the Advisory Committee on Child Support Guidelines and Enforcement.
Rachel graduated Cum Laude from the University of Alabama in 2001 and received her Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2005. In 2011, she was appointed to the Alabama Custodial Laws Revision Task Force.
When not busy fighting for her clients and advocating for the children of Alabama, Rachel enjoys spending as much time as possible volunteering in the community, relaxing with her loving family, and attending the many cultural events Birmingham has to offer.
